Our goal is to bring this finest of sea salts to dinner tables across North America; whether it be your favorite local restaurant and your home.

Sustainability
Flor de Sal USA , was established with the sole purpose of bringing this finest of gourmet salt, as well as Traditional Sea Salt (Sal Marinho Tradicional) to the states, while keeping in mind the delicate balance between man's needs and nature's ability to sustain our use of it.

As with any natural product, we rely heavily on the health and well-being of the land to produce for us.

Awards
Nature et Progress Necton, our producer in Portugal , has earned a number of awards for their sustainable approach to harvesting sea salt. Along with adhering to the principles prescribed by "Nature et Progrès" the organization responsible for certifying the purity of sea salt, similar to a certified organic produce item. "Nature et Progrès" ensures that consumers can confidently make decisions with regard to the purity of the sea salt they buy. The "Nature et Progrès" seal guarantees that the salt has been tested for, and found free of, 82 possible contaminants. The group requires producers to:
work in protected areas where industry and hunting are       forbidden, and
sun-dry and do not grind their sea salt.

Additionally, "Nature et Progrès" requires that salt receiving it's seal be:
taken from water that is dependent only upon gravity for it's      circulation,
   independent of fishponds,
harvested using traditional crafting and manual harvesting      in saltponds with clayfloors,
with wooden tools without chemical treatment

From researchers to farmers, from distributors to teachers, from trade associations to entrepreneurs - all those who help check the impoverishment of the vegetable and animal heritage which helps form a country's gastronomic culture and conserve the global ecological balance are ideal candidates for the Slow Food Award. Nominations for the Award are submitted by an international jury made up of hundreds and hundreds of observers and experts in every corner of the world. For all those who see the agroindustrial sector as an expression of the culture and identity of a people, a bridge with its past and an opportunity for future development, the award candidates stand as the true heroes of our time.

Lastly, Necton was awarded the Prémio Agricultura e Pescas award in 2003.
